One Woman. One Defender.
One Contintent.

Exploring Africa & supporting grass roots projects.

Meet Sally & Hari

I’m Sally, 66, retired and living in Spain. Hari, my land Rover Defender 300Tdi, lives in Johannesburg. His full name is The KalaHARI Snail — late 80’s film buffs will get it! Together, we are SallysWheels, exploring sub-Saharan Africa — visiting remote communities, supporting grassroots projects, and sharing their stories, somewhat erratically and often in retrospect, with the world.

The Journey & Mission

From Johannesburg, the journey unfolds in stages, the intention being to travel within each sub-Saharan African country by 2027 and to combine adventure with a deeper purpose to connect with community & conservation projects, some planned, some - most - serendipetous.

Three legs in and, whilst we tried, not much has gone to plan. We’ve made it as far as Lake Malawi with each leg taking us back into, our now second southern African home, Botswana. All of it down to new friends, amazing projects, Hari’s temperamental outbursts, and just the sheer draw of this rich & magnetic country!

All proof this journey is as much about the people and projects as it is the road ahead.

The next leg begins in June with The Africa Rally, during which we’ll be promoting and raising funds for two great projects : Anti-Poaching K9 in Zimbabwe & The Hope Community School for Orphans in Ipee, western Zambia. That said the fundraiser is live now and will no doubt continue for a period beyond the rally.

The Africa Rally

In 2026, SallysWheels will take part in the Africa Rally, fundraising for Anti-Poaching K9 in Zimbabwe and the Ipee Hope Community School for Orphans in Zambia via GivenGain.

All donations and revenue from merchandise sales will go directly to this locally run conservation unit protecting wildlife from poaching in Zimbabwe.
